With TakeOver: In Your House having taken place this past weekend, NXT was looking to move onto it's next chapter, with new NXT Women's Champion Io Shirai potentially making her debut outing with her new strap. Alongside this, who would step up to challenge Adam Cole now that The Velveteen Dream could not and what was next for North American Champion Keith Lee after beating Johnny Gargano to retain his title? Let's find out what went down on the black and gold brand...

Adam Cole Opens the Show
Adam Cole and his Undisputed Era buddies Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong hit the ring after a short video package showing off the highlights of TakeOver. Cole was very confident, claiming that it didn't matter who came for him next, he would beat them just as he had beaten everyone else. A couple of times throughout Cole's speech, Roddy claimed to have seen Dexter Lumis in the crowd, but no one else could see him. Cole claimed that Lumis would get his comeuppance and laid out a challenge for a match later in the night. As the trio were leaving the ring, Roddy saw Lumis in the crowd again - he was actually there this time - and hightailed it to the back.

Keith Lee & Mia Yim v Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae
After trying to settle their issues individually, these two pairs finally came together to put an end to everything that has been going on between them. Lee and Yim came into this one with a great deal of babyface fire, trying to best their cruel opponents once and for all but The Garganos have embraced their loathsome side and Johnny helped Candice to take control with some underhanded tactics. The couple worked together to keep Lee from taking any kind of momentum and, when Yim tagged in, LeRae almost took the win with a springboard moonsault. Yim managed to kick out and find enough within herself to tag Lee back in but The Limiteless One accidentally knocked his partner off of the apron, effectively taking her out of the match. LeRae was still down on the mat when Johnny Wrestling hit the big man with his One Last Beat DDT. Lee landed right on top of The Poison Pixie, crushing her under his weight. As Lee tended to the hurt LeRae, Gargano rolled him up from behind and got the 3-count to win the match. This was a fun bout but this story did seem to have run its course at TakeOver. Gargano failed to recreate Keith Lee in his image, so he should move on to another target, not fighting the North American Champion again.

Indus Sher in Action
There was a short video package highlighting Io Shirai's rise thought NXT to become champion before Malcolm Biven brought his big men down to the ring to display their dominance. Facing "local talent" this was only ever going one way. The duo hit a few big moves before swiftly putting their opponents away and having their hands raised by their manager. No promo this week, but the message was clear; Indus Sher are the new bruisers in the tag ranks of NXT.
Breezango Talk About Their Image & Rhea Ripley is Interviewed
After winning a big tag match recently, Tyler Breeze and Fandango were looking to show a more serious side, claiming that they would defeat NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium and create a new legacy for themselves. Following this, we saw some clips from the Tommaso Ciampa/Karrion Kross match from TakeOver and a clip of Ciampa refusing to answer any questions after his loss. We then jumped to Rhea Ripley being interviewed about her loss at TakeOver and what was next for her. She was interrupted by Robert Stone, who claimed that they had both been losers on Sunday - and throughout 2020 - and that he was the bigger loser but he knew how to make it right for both of them. He claimed that Ripley should use his services as a manager, but The Nightmare was having none of it, beating Stone down and leaving him laying.

Finn Balor v Cameron Grimes
Grimes has tried to get out of this match, claiming injury after Damian Priest decked him backstage for some unfavourable comments. NXT General Manager William Regal demanded that Grimes take the match and so it was on. Grimes recently beat Balor due to assistance from Priest, but there was no help forthcoming here. The Prince greatly outmatched his opponent, showing Grimes why you don't mess with royalty. Grimes fought hard, showing some fire, but an inverted lifting DDT and a Coup de Grace would be enough to put him away. However, Balor wasn't taking chances, picking Grimes back up and hitting the 1916 lifting DDT for the win. After the match, The Prince made it very clear that he wanted to take Keith Lee's North American Championship from him.

Dakota Kai v Kacy Catanzaro
After the six-woman tag team match at TakeOver ended with Kai being pinned by Tegan Nox, she was out with a chip on her shoulder tonight. She went hard at Catanzaro, attacking with strikes from the off but Catanzaro managed to use her speed and agility to stay in the game, even managing a near-fall at one point. Kai's muscle at ringside, Raquel Gonzalez, served her purpose though, creating an opportunity for the Leader of Team Kick to take Catanzaro out, hitting the GTK for the win. Gonzalez joining Kai in the ring after the bell, assaulting Catanzaro until Kayden Carter ran down for the save. The numbers were too great for Carter though and she ended up being powerbombed by Gonzalez. Catanzaro is far too talented for the lack of things she is given to do on NXT, so a team with Carter might be a good idea if there is nothing else for them. Giving Kai some heat back was a good call here, she would be a decent heel challenger for Io Shirai somewhere down the line.

El Hijo del Fantasma Celebrates His Championship Win
Having beaten Drake Maverick last week, El Hijo del Fantasma was crowned the new cruiserweight champion. As he hit the ring and began to talk on the mic, Maverick came to join him, requesting another match with Fantasma now that he was a fully contracted superstar. Before Fantasma could respond, the masked men responsible for the recent kidnappings made their way down to the ring. As Fantasma and Maverick stood back to back ready to fight, Fantasma literally turned on the Brit, headbutting him before hitting the Phantom Driver. As the three men beat Maverick down, the two outsiders removed their masks, revealing themselves to be Jaoquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza - the two victims of the kidnappings. The champion also removed his mask, announcing himself as Santos Escobar and "completely untouchable". This bait and switch was well executed and gives the Cruiser division a shot in the arm, but i just have one thing to say about this segment... CALLED IT!

Dexter Lumis v Adam Cole
Adam Cole's challenge from earlier in the night created the main event of the show - again with the only the fly booking - and Lumis managed to unsettle the champ early on. His blank stare and lack of reception had Cole flustered, but Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong cheered him on from ringside nonetheless. Lumis was completely unencumbered by anything Cole could throw at him and went for the Kata Gatame submission fairly early on. Cole managed to escape and hit a superkick but Lumis kicked out of the pin. As Cole took control, he looked to hit the Panama Sunrise to put his creepy opponent away, but Lumis managed to counter and lock his vicious submission move in. Fish and Strong sensed danger and went to work, with Fish distracting the ref while Roddy attacked Lumis, breaking the submission and setting up Cole for the Last Shot to put Lumis away. The Undisputed Era boys were looking for revenge, beating down on Lumis for his involvement at TakeOver before Velveteen Dream came flying down to help the man who has recently helped him against UE attacks. As Cole was left alone in the ring, the Performance Centre went dark and a spotlight hit Scarlett as she walked slowly to the ring. Chants of "fall and pray" filled the ring as Scarlett placed an hourglass in front of Cole and Karrion Kross' logo appeared on the screen. Chants of "tick, tock" took over as the show went off the air. Having Kross go after Cole is only a good idea if they are going to go all in on him and give him the belt. There was no point giving him such a big introduction and putting him over Tommaso Ciampa in such dominating fashion if he is just another person to lose to Cole. Lumis and Dream dealing with the rest of the UE members creates some interesting tag team opportunities, so that can only be a positive.
What did you think of NXT this week? Will Breezango beat Imperium for the NXT Tag Team Championships? Is Karrion Kross the right man to take the NXT Championship from Adam Cole? Will Finn Balor get his match against Keith Lee for the North American Championship? Let us know what you think on this and more down below!
